Hi, I'm Dr. Alicia Núñez
Veterinary Nutrition by an empath.
I studied Veterinary Medicine in Spain (Universidade de Santiago de Compostela) and specialized in Natural Nutrition (College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies, Australia).
I discovered the importance and complexity of veterinary nutrition when my sister's dog, Hoonah, got extremely sick because of a life-threatening intestinal disease. Since then, I continued formulating home-made diets, applying nutraceuticals and giving nutritional counseling to pet-parents.
In pets-nutrition I have found a safe space for me to thrive.
I am now able to listen to families longer and deeper.
I can dedicate whatever time is needed to study a case.
I can breathe, have a routine. Eat lunch...
But, most importantly, my Highly Sensitive soul has found a way to keep helping its true love: Animals.
Hoonah.
Hoonah's case made me fall in love with natural nutrition on the long term, but in the begining I was extremely scared and lost, very lost.
At that time, pet-nutrition options were scarce. But we fought.
My goal became to keep her in this world long enough to enter a Mesenchymal stem cells study scheduled one year ahead, at the Universidad de Extremadura.
Her, not giving up, even when her body was fading, pushed me to dive into books, studies, and pulled me out from my own fear to keep trying new approaches.
Her pet-parents, and our family, believed in me; and after a year of fighting, with crazy feeding times, nightmares with the possible euthanasia, endless meal changes and medication adjustments, we made it to the study to treat her extreme IBD.
That pioneer research saved her life, and us, her family, made it possible.
Through that hellish year, which I will never regret, Hoonah taught us that medicine, more than anything, means Hope.
